PT new album update
Writing for the next PT studio record is well underway, with the band recently spending 2 weeks secluded in the English countryside working on new tracks. Recording of these pieces and a new 35 minute SW song cycle is due to start in February, and tour plans are being put in place from September onwards following release of the new album. A London show is already announced for 9th October at Hammersmith Apollo, and there will be many more dates confirmed over the coming weeks, so please check the tour dates page for updates.
Yes, we have almost finished it, I will fly in two days to the United States to finish the album. It will be released in September. It is epic, it`s Porcupine Tree, a little different but it will be very… epic.
It has elements of `Deadwing' and `In Absentia' but in addition it is somehow different, it’s a musical piece of a very long scale, the main track of the album is a continuous song of 50 minutes, very epic. It is less heavy than the last albums; it has more of a classic sound. At this moment I am not much into heavy music, that can be seen (in Insurgents). I was very inspired by metal when I was doing `In Absentia' while working with Opeth, however, I believe that heavy metal fans will like it, they are very open-minded, when a heavy metal fan likes a band he always stays with them, I believe they will love it, it is definitively very epic.
Porcupine Tree are happy to announce the forthcoming release of their tenth studio album "The Incident". The record is set to be released via Roadrunner Records worldwide on 21st September, as a double CD.
The centre-piece is the title track, which takes up the whole of the first disc. The 55-minute work is described as “a slightly surreal song cycle about beginnings and endings and the sense that ‘after this, things will never be the same again’.”
The self-produced album is completed by four standalone compositions that developed out of band writing sessions last December - Flicker, Bonnie The Cat, Black Dahlia, and Remember Me Lover feature on a separate EP length disc to stress their independence from the song cycle.
Video footage of the band in the studio working on The Incident, as well as audio previews, will be available online soon. The band will tour extensively to promote the album from mid September onwards.
Roadrunner have posted some clips of Porcupine Tree working in the studio on their forthcoming album The Incident here.
Also the cover image and subtitles to the various parts of the long song cycle that takes up the whole of the first CD were revealed at a playback in New York earlier this week. The cover was photographed by Lasse Hoile and designed by Carl Glover.
